Roads are generally in poor condition. Only 23% of all roads in Honduras are paved. Many rural areas are isolated from cities because of poor transportation and communications. Many roads and bridges were destroyed by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, but most roads and bridges have now been rebuilt. Mostly people rely on buses and taxis for public transportation because very few people have cars of their own. If you can’t get a car to rent, buses would probably be the best to travel in because they’re easy to access, and one of the only ways to get around. Several cities can be accessible by airplane.
