An area of jungle wetlands, tropical forests, and mountains (La Mosquitia), is located on the northeastern coast. Mostly Hondurans live in Honduras’ central region, which is made up of tall mountains, deep valleys, and rolling hills. This region is also covered by thick forests, farms, towns, and the capital city of Tegucigalpa. The land flattens near the coast on both sides of Honduras. The climate of Honduras highly depends on the elevation. Honduras includes Bay Islands in the Caribbean Sea and several islands in the Gulf of Fonseca. All areas of Honduras only have two seasons, a rainy season, and a dry season. The rainy season usually lasts from May to November, and March through May are the hottest months of all, and highs can reach up to 105℉ (40℃). The coastal areas of Honduras are usually warmer and more humid than the central region, and has a pleasant climate almost year-round. The south of Honduras is warmer and drier than the rest of the country. Honduras lies in the Hurricane Belt, and many tropical storms and hurricanes lash the Caribbean coast each year. Pack clothes that you would feel comfortable wearing when it is warm and hot out. Also bring sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the heat on the dry and hot months.
